Luna Display is available in two models: USB-C and Mini DisplayPort. This is a guide to help you pick the right model for your Mac.
Which Macs support USB-C?
USB-C is an option available on the most recent Macs. Here is a complete list of Mac’s that support USB-C:
- iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
- iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017)
- iMac (21.5-inch, 2017)
- MacBook Pro (2016 and later)
- MacBook (2015 and later)
Which Macs support Mini DisplayPort?
Most Macs after 2008 and prior to 2016 have Mini DisplayPort. Here is a list of Macs that support Mini DisplayPort:
- iMac (Early 2009 to Late 2015)
- MacBook Pro (Late 2008 to Mid 2015)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
- MacBook (Late 2008 to Mid 2010)
- Mac Pro (2009 or later)
- Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
How do I determine what model Mac I have?
Find out what year and model Mac you have by going to the Apple menu in the upper left of your Mac and selecting “About this Mac.” Inside the window that appears, you’ll see the model and year of your Mac.
Can I use an adapter?
No, Luna Display will not work with any kind of USB-C or Mini DisplayPort adapter. All of the adapters we have tested don’t implement Mini DisplayPort or USB-C properly, even Apple’s adapters. To guarantee reliable performance, Luna Display must be plugged directly into your Mac.

What are the system requirements for Luna?
Works with any modern Mac - Luna requires a Mac running macOS 10.11 El Capitan (or later). For optimal performance we recommend these configurations: MacBook Air (2012 and later), MacBook Pro (2012 and later), Mac mini (2012 and later), iMac (2012 and later), Mac Pro (Late 2013).
Works with any modern iPad - Luna requires an iPad running iOS 9.1 (or later): iPad 2 (or later), any iPad Mini and any iPad Pro.
Is the Luna app a separate purchase?
No — the Luna app is a free download on the App Store. It will be made available when we ship the hardware component.
What about Windows support?
At this time, Luna Display does not support Windows. However, we are considering development for PC compatibility in the future! In the meantime, you can sign up for our Luna mailing list and we will notify you when we expand our reach.
Shipping and Delivery
When will my Luna pre-order be delivered?
Your Luna pre-order will be shipped to you by January 2019.
What countries does Luna ship to?
We currently ship only to the United States, Canada, Japan and the European Union. If you are interested in Luna but live outside of these countries, you can sign up for our Luna mailing list and we will notify you when we expand our shipping destinations.
Can I use multiple iPads with Luna?
No — Luna Display only supports one iPad at a time, and one Luna at a time.
Can I use Luna with an adapter?
We do not recommend using Luna with adapters.
Which hardware accessories does Luna work with?
Luna has full support for external keyboards, mice, and Apple Pencil.
Is Luna pressure sensitive?
Luna does not have pressure sensitivity. For artists looking to use Luna with creative programs and pressure sensitivity, they can combine Luna with Astropad.
